The ARTISAN Fund
Supporting the dreams of artisans to thrive in the craft sector.
The Artisan Fund is the non-profit arm of ARTIST & NOMAD, offering support to artisan communities around the world in an effort to help locally-led cooperatives and artisan businesses thrive through mentorship, design consultation, small grants, and documentary film projects. We believe partnerships should be led by the artisans, so we come alongside artisan leaders to support their dreams and visions to grow their business, preserve traditional crafts, and prosper through direct trade opportunities.
In many communities, the main source of income and employment is through the artisan sector, so artisan-led and direct trade models can transform the future of whole communities and families. However, many artisans face exploitation and poverty because of middlemen and lack of opportunity. We aim to help dismantle systems of injustice in the artisan sector by creating more equitable jobs, educating the public about the importance of direct trade, and shedding light on the beauty and importance of heritage crafts globally.
Our ARTISAN FUND helps cover the cost to consult and support artisan leaders in the areas of design, marketing, visual story telling, and business mentorship. We also will offer small grants that work as a catalyst to launch an artisan leader’s dream and vision to grow their business.
In 2024-25, we supported artisan leaders in India, Morocco, and Kenya to develop designs and prepare their businesses for the international market. If you would like to be in direct touch with one of these artisan groups to view their wholesale catalog, we would be delighted to connect you. Just let us know via an email.
Our big initiative for 2025 is a feature length nonprofit documentary film on artisans. See the teaser and learn more about the film here.
We welcome your donations so we can support the dreams of our artisans friends in these locations. You can choose to make a one time donation or become a monthly artisan partner.
Thank you for joining us in creating opportunities for artisan communities to thrive!
