Arrival Airport & Time:
Airport: Marrakech
Customs + Transportation: It takes about 2 hours to get through customs and transport to the Riad . Plan to arrive at Riad Berbere between 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. We will arrange your transfer from the airport to the Riad based on your flight itinerary.
Riad: Check-in is at 3:00 pm. If your flight arrives early, you can still head to the Riad, but your room may not be ready till 3:00 pm.
Departure Airport & Time:
Airport: Your return flight should also be from Marrakesh unless you plan to tour more of Morocco on your own.
Your return flight should also be from Marrakesh. We suggest flights after noon so you can have a good meal before your long journey.
You will depart your accommodation after breakfast at least 4 hours before your scheduled flight home. You will need to check out of the hotel by 11am no matter your return flight time. You can still stay on the property and they will hold your luggage.

Exchange some Cash at the airport in baggage claim. You can use an ATM machine or money exchange. The rate is not great. Alternatively, we will pass a money exchange in the medina on our walking tour. You can exchange cash for dirhams. There are very limited ATMS in Morocco outside the airport. You can use your cc for many purchases, but smaller artisans prefer cash, so we recommend exchanging $200-500USD for small personal purchases as well as tips.
Meet your driver outside the airport after you exit. Look for a sign that says: Riad Berbere
Kirsten will be waiting to greet you at the Riad.
-
We will coordinate all your transportation in Morocco, including airport transfers. All transportation is included in your tour costs. We will cover the tips for transportation as well.

We ask that you restrain from taking images that don’t honor the local culture or people. Also, be sensitive to taking photos of people or children - ask permission if someone wants their photos taken before you take it.
Social Media: Share what inspires you on social media. Tag ARTIST & NOMAD and our local partners as a way to honor them and inspire others to explore social impact travel.
-

Here’s a suggested packing list. We’ll go over details in our pre-trip meeting if you have further questions. Keep it light — you’ll re-wear clothes, and layers are key in Morocco. Days are cool-warm in January but nights (especially in the desert and mountains) can be chilly and even cold, so bring at least one jacket or wool sweater. Check the weather before packing.
Clothing: Modest clothing is important. Avoid shorts, miniskirts, tank tops, see-through, tight, or low-cut clothes. No bare shoulders, flashy styles, torn clothes, or offensive t-shirts. Good options are dresses, tunics, pants/jeans with blouses or button-up shirts. Layers are good.
4–6 casual outfits + 1–2 nicer outfits (you’ll repeat outfits)
Lightweight jacket + 1 sweater for cool evenings (a wool layer too)
Scarf for entering holy sites and for warmth.
Undergarments + Socks:
Bring enough for the entire trip (pack an extra in carry-on) as the laundry services may not do your undergarments. You can wash on your own in the sink if needed.
Socks: enough for trip and remember to bring a wooly pair for keeping warm at night.
Shoes
Comfortable closed-toe walking shoes.
Sandals comfortable for walking.
Swimwear
Swimsuit for the pool at our final stop (towels provided).

Bring a small bag for carrying a wet swimsuit.

This will be the main thing you are offered throughout your tour. There is no pork in Morocco per religious customs. If you made any food preferences in your registration, those preferences will be shared with each accommodation and we will do our best to honor your request.
Please avoid eating street food unless our guide says it is ok. Otherwise, the food we have planned in our itinerary will be safe. Most our morning and evening meals will be at our accommodations.

Here are some great lists for tips on Moroccan Culture. Please review as they will be most helpful to you to understand the culture and avoid offending our hosts. You will also feel more comfortable in Morocco if you are familiar with some of the customs.

There are so many great films based in Morocco or about North Africa. You will see places that remind you of many films shot in Morocco like Lawrence of Arabia, Hideous Kinky, Alexander, and Babel. The below links also include some great books and blogs to check out as well as many films. Have fun and invite your family or friends to join you for a few film nights before the trip!!
